Now — in this opinion posting, I am not talking about job loss. Nope…. I am talking about something way more serious. Data. Your data. My data. Every americans data.
When I call my airline, my bank, my insurance company, they are all in India or some other country. So that means, every single piece of data related to me is also in that country. Have I worried you yet?
Now, we have seen many stories on Dateline NBC, CNN and the like about how secure these centers are. The workers are not allowed to carry anything into the room in which they work, they have access to a keyboard and mouse only, etc. Should that make me feel better?
I know many people from India here in the US. And I will say that the majority of them are smart, in fact very smart. I don’t know about you, but I sure am worried that something will eventually go wrong between the countries, and we will never see our data again. Well that is until it is sold on the black market.
When we outsourced manufacturing twenty-years ago, there was no data associated. Make a shirt, ship a shirt. Now it sure is something else.
And while I am less worried about countries like India, with talk about outsourcing to Latin America where reports show things are in disarray in many countries, this worries me.
Just shows that corporate greed > your data.
