Ok - so lately I have been reading a lot about “American cars”. The more I listen and read, the more I am confused. What is really an American car anymore? For example:

  • My German car was manufactured in Mexico - does that make it Mexican?
  • Toyota cars are manufactured in the USA - does that make them American?

Do Ford and GM want to hold on to the “American” moniker to try to get us to purchase their cars over the “outsourced” competition? When I purchased my German/Mexican car 5 years ago, I looked at a bunch of cars. None of the so-called American cars had the innovation or quality that the German cars do. So I made the choice.

So I pose the question, what really makes a good (car or otherwise) an “American” good?
